About Us

Kyle M. Rhodes, M.D. founded the Lake Travis Eye and Laser Center in order to bring state-of-the-art general eyecare and surgery to the West Austin area. As you will see during your visit, the clinic is extremely efficient and hassle-free.

Dr. Rhodes graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science with Highest Honors. His medical school training was at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.

Dr. Rhodes' internal medicine internship and ophthalmology training were completed at the prestigious California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, California, where he served as Chief Resident. He then returned to Texas, for a glaucoma fellowship at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas.

He was the President of the Austin Ophthalmology Society in 2011, and is currently a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the American Glaucoma Society, the Texas Ophthalmological Society, and the Texas Medical Association.

In April 2009, Dr. Rhodes joined Howerton Eye Clinic in South Austin as their lead cataract, glaucoma, and LASIK surgeon.

Why us?

Dr. Rhodes was an extremely busy cataract, glaucoma, and refractive surgeon in South Austin during 2009-early 2010. He left this position specifically to open Lake Travis Eye and Laser Center with the belief that the Lake Travis area could benefit greatly from a state-of-the-art ophthalmology practice specializing in cataract surgery, complete glaucoma care, and refractive surgery such as LASIK. In June 2012, Dr. Rhodes performed the first cataract surgery and implanted the first Restor lens in Lakeway at the new Lakeway Regional Medical Center.

Lake Travis Eye & Laser Center is a member of the Lake Travis Chamber of Commerce, as well as the Four Points Chamber of Commerce and is located in the beautiful Tuscan Hills Lakeside building on RR 620. Dr. Rhodes strongly believes in providing the best possible care for each patient that comes through the door. This is seen in the medical records system and diagnostic equipment that we provide:

• Our electronic medical record integrates fully with your pharmacy to provide you with easy access to your medications, with your primary care physician to provide them with updates on your eye health, and with your insurance to quickly confirm that they will cover the cost of your visit.
• There are two important measurements that must be accurate to ensure a predictable result from cataract surgery: the shape/power of your cornea, and the length of your eye. These are used to calculate the exact lens implant to place into your eye during the surgery. We are one of the only clinics in the Austin area to provide the most advanced equipment for both of these measurements: the Pentacam topographer for corneal measurements, and the Lenstar LS900 for the eye length measurement.
• There are two important tests that glaucoma patients need yearly to ensure that their disease is not progressing: a visual field exam that tests the function of your optic nerve, and an OCT scan to measure the thickness (correlates with health) of the optic nerve. We provide top-of-the-line diagnostic machines for both of these tests: the Humphery Visual Field Analyzer with Glaucoma Progression Analysis, and a Spectral domain OCT.
